Trauma-Informed In-Person Training

For folks based in the Northern Colorado area…
These one-on-one trauma-informed personal training sessions are conducted out of the Lighthouse Fitness studio gym space. In this fun and functional fitness space, you get to experience what personal training is truly all about. You get fully customized, collaborative workouts built around your goals and needs, delivered through a truly unique, trauma-informed training approach. You even have the ability to control the music in the space so that you can feel as at-home and comfortable as possible as you discover your strength on your own terms!

Virtual Trauma-Informed Training

For folks outside of the local area or those who are more interested in working out online…
For folks who are more comfortable working out in their own space or aren’t located in the Northern Colorado area, I also offer virtual trauma-informed sessions via Zoom! Similar to the in-person training experience, you get collaborative, trauma-informed workouts that help you make the most of your own fitness out of the comfort and safety of your own space. We will make use of any and all fitness equipment that you have at home and you are not required to purchase any additional equipment to participate in virtual training sessions

What is “trauma-informed personal training” exactly?

I’m a big believer that if you work with the body, you work with trauma.

So, “trauma-informed personal training” is a style of training that recognizes and honors the presence of trauma symptoms in my clients as we work together to discover what they can do to feel safe, strong, and secure in their bodies through their movement.

My training style centers around a non-restrictive, collaborative approach that celebrates personal choice in the workout space and helps my clients to build healthy boundaries and limits within their personal fitness.

We invite creativity and compassion into the fitness space as we explore and discover what movements feel safe and supportive one rep at a time.

So, do I have to have “trauma” to train with you?

No, you do not!

While I have the tools and resources to work with folks who have trauma, I also have extensive experience working with folks in a more “traditional training” sense as well!

If you want to focus on improving strength, building your balance and flexibility, or simply learning how to find joy in your movement, I’ve got you covered too!

 Training FAQs

  • I offer personal training services Monday-Thursday between the hours of 7:00am-3:30pm MST, and 7:00am-5:00pm MST on Fridays.

  • Each workout is roughly 50 minutes in length and will always include a warm-up, workout, and cool-down.

  • I describe myself as a “weight-neutral” trainer and coach. This means that while I am happy to support you along your weight loss journey (if this is something that you are interested in doing), it’s not a primary focus of my training style. I am more so focused on helping you to improve your strength-based, behavior-change related habits and actions that will help you to make the most of your health at any size or weight.

  • Trauma-informed personal training sessions look very similar to traditional personal training sessions in a lot of ways! You will start with a nice warm up to get your mind and body ready to go, you will get your heart rate going through various strength, flexibility, and mobility moves, and you will finish with a relaxing, feel-good cooldown to bring your mind and body back to neutral. However one big difference is that trauma-informed training sessions may be much more adaptable and flexible than a “traditional training” session. Instead of coming in with a pre-determined, “do as trainer tells you do to” type of workout plan that you follow no matter what, we work together to discover what moves feel best for you during that particular day and session! I will always have a plan in mind, but it’s important to remember that some days certain moves will feel good and other days they won’t. So instead of forcing you to do things your body may not want to do, I will always ask you for your feedback and we will adjust your workouts accordingly based upon your answers. This gives your mind and body the flexibility that you need to adopt a compassionate approach to fitness, and ensures that you are always the one in charge of your body and your movement. Beyond that, you can expect to have fun, learn more about the “what, why, and how” of each move you are doing, and are welcome to ask questions any step along the way!

  • If you are training in-person, you do not need to bring anything additional to the training session because we will be making use of the awesome equipment that we have in the Lighthouse Fitness space! However, I do encourage all of my clients to bring a water bottle (or other tasty workout drink of your choosing) so that you can stay hydrated throughout the workout session. If you tend to sweat during your workouts, don’t worry because clean, fresh towels will be provided for you if needed as well! If you are training virtually, I will ask you to come prepared ahead of time to each session with whatever form of fitness equipment (dumbbells, bands, towels, etc.) that you have available.

  • No you do not! In fact, I have worked with many clients in the past who have used nothing but their own body weight and a few items they have lying around to get some pretty awesome results! However, I do believe that a few inexpensive pairs of dumbbells or resistance bands do pack an extra punch, and I am more than willing to help you expand your at-home fitness space if you are interested in doing so!

  • I ask all folks that train with me to commit to an initial three-month training plan. This training plan will consist of three different movement phases that will help you to make the most of your fitness on your own terms. My reasoning for this is based solely in movement science. While research shows that folks can see some pretty significant results within the first 4-6 weeks of consistent workouts, it takes roughly 8-12 weeks to see long-term, long-lasting results. Therefore, I want to ensure that you are set up for success as much as possible as we work to make the most of your movement over the first 12 weeks. Remember, working out is a skill that takes time to build. In fact, it’s a lot like learning how to play a new instrument (except the instrument is your body!) Therefore, we need some time to help you practice and master your movements, improve your understanding of your body’s signals, and give you the greatest shot for long-lasting success!

  • No refunds are issued for the initial 3-month period of your training package (exceptions and emergencies taken into consideration here of course). After that, payments move to a no-commitment, phase-by-phase basis (phases are roughly 4 weeks in length) and you can cancel at any time with notice before the start of your next training phase.
